Article of the month:
The Power of What You Believe
“To begin the process of change is about uncovering what you actually believe, not what you think you believe.”
What is the one thing that keeps you from living your dream? It’s a great question. But it’s the wrong question.
Last month I was standing in the que at the bank reading the metro. A headline on the cover blared: “When is your Ship Coming in? The one way to find out what’s keeping you from what you really want.”
Intrigued, I opened the paper and began to read the article. In the very first paragraph, the writer asked: “What is the one thing that keeps you from living your dream?” It’s a really good question. It’s a great question. But it’s the wrong question.
What is the one thing keeping you from living your dream? First of all, what is your dream? Is it something you want but always seems to elude you, a faint desire that occasionally distracts you until you dismiss it and go back to your daily life? You must be doing something wrong if what you really want, your dream, isn’t materializing in real life.
Perhaps for just a moment take another point of view. Drawing from an ageless wisdom that is hundreds, perhaps thousands of years old, the Toltec of ancient Mexico taught that the human mind is alive and one of its main purposes is to dream. They claimed beliefs are a filter the mind dreams through, awake or asleep, thus your reality is created by what you choose to believe. Today, quantum physics, medical science and countless spiritual traditions tell us that we are the masters of our own reality, our waking dream.
What is keeping you from living your dream? Nothing. You are living in your dream, a wordless state of being constructed by your own beliefs about everything. And if you are unaware, worried, anxious, frustrated or steeped in emotions that don’t feel good, it may be a dream that is dreaming you. To be convinced that you are not living your dream just isn’t true. You are precisely living your dream, through a lens of beliefs and agreements, and that is what fabricates your perspective day in and day out.
Okay. I am the master of my reality and I want to make some changes so I can begin living that far-off dream that has always eluded me. What is the first step?
The first step is awareness. To make any change you have to be aware of the exact thing you want to change. To make a real change you have to get to the core of the issue, and the core issue related to any behaviour you want to modify is always about what you believe.
So all I have to do is change what I believe, right? It’s not that easy. What you believe is the culmination of your experiences, agreements and the investment of your faith. Belief is an energetic entity, a living dream with memory, intelligence, and most importantly an emotional point of view. To change what you believe is not simply a matter of deciding to believe something else. To change what you believe is not about changing your mind, but more accurately changing the way you dream.
To begin the process of change is about uncovering what you actually believe, not what you think you believe. I tell people it is hidden beliefs that create barriers to success and true happiness. They say, “Oh great! If they are hidden, how am I going to find out what they are?” Just look. The answer is all around you.
If your reality is distorted by the experiences, beliefs and agreements that are unique to you, you project that out into the world. Very often what is happening in your life - right now- is a perfect reflection of what you believe. Almost everyone in your inner circle is in your movie reading off your script.
Rather than asking, what is the one thing keeping me from living my dream? Maybe the question we should ask ourselves is: What have I created? What am I dreaming right now? What is my own unique perspective and is that keeping me from realizing my deepest desires? If I am in fact the master of my own reality, and I notice that, what would I choose?
Imagine: You can create the life you dream of, beyond what is true today. Impossible? Not really, because you create the life you dream of every single day. If it’s true that we dream our reality, awake or asleep, then the act of choosing what to believe, consciously, is an act of empowerment - an act of power. To be conscious of our ability to create reality is simply awareness. Awareness of the awesome force of belief brings into being enormous possibility. The future can be full of amazing things. Extraordinary living - an exploration of the possibilities of life lived to its fullest. By recognising what you believe and doing some simple NLP belief changing exercises, you can make long-lasting changes improving your life, health, relationships, income and career.
Success Stories:
“In my view, sales performance is often determined as much by a person’s mentality as it is by technical ability, so I was intrigued to see whether 2 days with Brain Train Academy using techniques from the groundbreaking field of NLP could make a difference to my sales team. I was delighted to report a massive increase in closing ratios during our subsequent client presentation programme increasing from 25% in the previous programme to 46% (a record performance). In particular, one of our team who had historically been our weakest closer was transformed to becoming our strongest, closing over 70% of the clients he dealt with. There’s no doubt that Brain Train Academy’s training was the driving force behind this improvement and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to any business looking to take their sales performance to the next level. I’m also looking forward to working with them again in the near future.”

Metaphor of the month:
Law of the Garbage Truck
John hopped in a taxi and it took off for the airport. He was driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of him. His taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling. The taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. He was just really friendly.
So John asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!”
This is when John’s taxi driver taught him what he now calls, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you.
Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so…..
“Love the people who treat you right. Be friendly to the ones who don’t.”
“When our buttons are pushed a ton of energy comes rushing through under pressure. Someone is poking our defences! And that tends to feel hot and angry and immediate and deeply personal. When it comes down to it, though, all that energy tends to have very little to do with the person actually pushing the button.”

How Enlightened Are You? A Test:
Well. . .
If you can live without caffeine or nicotine;
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains;
If you can resist complaining;
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you any time;
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment;
If you can ignore friends’ limited educations and never correct them;
If you can treat the rich and poor alike;
If you can face the world without lies or deceit;
If you can conquer tension without medical help;
If you can relax without alcohol;
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs;
If you can have no prejudice against creed, colour, religion, gender, sexual preference, or politics —
then you have almost reached the same level of spiritual development as your dog.
